How to Turn Your Room Into a Mini Basketball Court

How to Turn Your Room Into a Mini Basketball Court

Hi, I’m River!

I’m 11 and I started Hoops for Good to sell mini basketball hoops—and help other kids get into the game too.

If you’ve got a mini hoop and a little space, you can turn your bedroom (or any room) into your very own indoor basketball court. It doesn’t need to be fancy, just fun. Here's how I set mine up without wrecking anything (mostly).

1. Pick the Right Door

Find a door that opens and closes easily, and doesn’t slam into a wall or shelf. Most bedroom doors work fine.
If it’s your bedroom, even better—you can practice trick shots any time.

2. Protect the Door (So You Don’t Get in Trouble)

Put a towel or foam under the hooks if you’re worried about scratches.
Only use the soft ball that comes with the hoop—not a real basketball.
And don’t hang on the hoop. Trust me.

3. Clear a Shooting Zone

Move your desk chair, laundry basket, or anything you might trip over.
Mark a few spots on the floor with tape (or socks!) to create your own shooting lines.

4. Add Some Cool Stuff (Optional)

  • Make a scoreboard on your wall or whiteboard
  • Add a small bin for rebounds
  • Hang up a mini jersey or banner
  • Put on music for trick shot sessions

5. Make Up Your Own Games

Once your court’s ready, try some games:

  • HORSE
  • 60-second shooting challenge
  • Around the Room
  • Trick Shot Battle

You can even invite your friends over and have a mini hoop tournament.

Here’s What Mine Looks Like

I’ve got my hoop on the door, a towel to stop it bouncing, and about 3 metres of space to shoot. I also stuck a soft mat on the floor so I don’t make too much noise when I land a dunk.

Need a Hoop to Get Started?

I’ve got a mini hoop in the shop that comes with a backboard, hoop, soft ball, pump, and hooks.
And every hoop sold helps fund basketball programs for kids who are doing it tough.
