Top 7 Mini Hoop Trick Shots to Try at Home

I’m 11 and I started Hoops for Good because I love basketball and wanted to run a little business that also helps other kids play too.

One of the best things about having a mini basketball hoop is making up your own trick shots. You can try them in your room, hallway, or anywhere you’ve got space to hang the hoop (and not break stuff).

Here are 7 of my favourite mini hoop trick shots. Some are easy. Some took me like 20 tries. But they’re all fun.

1. The Spin Shot

Spin around 3 times, grab the ball, and shoot while you’re still dizzy. You’ll either score or fall over laughing. (Try not to knock anything off your shelves.)

2. Over the Shoulder

Turn your back to the hoop, look over your shoulder, and toss it behind you. It feels impossible at first—but when it goes in, it’s the best feeling.

3. Sit & Swish

Sit on your bed or the floor and try to shoot from down low. Add a challenge by lying down and doing it upside down.

4. The Bounce Dunk

Bounce the ball off the floor or the door and catch it mid-air for a slam. Try filming this in slow-mo—it looks awesome when you nail it.

5. Off-the-Wall Trick Shot

Use the wall, desk, or even a pillow to bounce the ball in at an angle. You can call it “The Ricochet” if you want to sound fancy.

6. One-Hand Only

Try doing everything with your non-dominant hand: dribble, aim, shoot. It’s hard—but if you score, it counts double.

7. Bank Shot Challenge

Stand in one corner of your room and aim for a perfect bank shot off the backboard. No swish—only clean bounces allowed.
