Why I Started Hoops for Good
Share
Hi, I’m River!
I’m 11 and I love basketball. I play at school, at home, and basically anywhere I can hang a hoop.
One day I had an idea:
What if I started a little business selling mini hoops?
And what if every time someone bought one, part of the money helped other kids get into basketball too?
That’s how Hoops for Good started.
Why Hoops?
I’ve always liked playing around with mini hoops at home. You can set them up in your bedroom, practice trick shots, play HORSE with your mates—there’s heaps you can do.
I wanted to sell something I actually use and enjoy. Not some random thing.
Why Give $10 to Help Other Kids?
Not every kid gets the same chance to play sport or be part of a team.
Some kids are going through tough stuff—at home, at school, or in their community.
I thought, if I could sell something fun, and give $10 from each sale to a program that helps kids like that through basketball... then that would be something worth doing.
What I’ve Learned So Far
- Running a business is fun—but there’s a lot to think about (like setting up a website and writing blogs like this!)
- I’ve learned about prices, shipping, donations, and how to talk to grown-ups (not always easy).
- I’ve also learned that a good idea can start small—and still make a difference.
What’s Next
I’ll be writing more blogs here with ideas, games, and trick shots.
I’m also working on some videos for YouTube and TikTok. And I’m hoping to team up with a basketball charity really soon.
If you’ve got a hoop, I hope you enjoy it. And if you’ve got an idea for something cool I should try—send it my way!
Thanks for reading.
